A Listing of Places to Donate Unwanted Items

When decluttering your home you will likely have items to donate, sell, or simply trash once the task is completed.

The following is a listing of organizations where your unwanted items can find a home. I have given the website address for each. Many of the websites will lead you to local chapters by simply plugging in the zip code where you live.

Some organizations will pickup items from your home or provide dropoff locations. They will also inform you of the types of items they accept and the acceptable condition of those items. Often local telephone numbers are given so you may speak with individuals. Note that the listing following each organization is not an apprehensive list of items accepted.

Salvation Army
www.salvationarmyusa.org clothing, furniture, household goods

Goodwill Industries
www.goodwill.org clothing, appliances, electronics, furniture

Dress for Success
www.dressforsuccess.org clothing

Purple Heart
www.purpleheart.org and www.purpleheartpickup.org shoes, blankets, pots and pans, toys, glasses, tools, small appliances

1-800 Got Junk
www.1800gotjunk.com old furniture and appliances, garden waste, renovation debris

Freecycle
www.freecycle.org A place to give and get, designed to keep items out of landfills. Offer your item to individuals for free or place an ad for something you seek. Find a local chapter using your zip code.

Donate Cars
www.car-donation.org or www.kars4kids.org Some will accept inoperable cars.

Check the internet for locations near you to dispose of hazardous waste and electronic products.

This list is by no means comprehensive. You may find other local organizations happy to accept your unwanted and gently used items. Check your telephone book and the internet.
